The artists invited to participate in the seventh edition of Glasstress by the curators Adriano Berengo and Koen Vanmechelen with the contribution of Ludovico Pratesi come from Europe, the United States, Latin America and Africa. Their works, housed in the Berengo Art Space Foundation in Murano, an old disused furnace transformed into an evocative exhibition space, share the ambitious pioneering intent to explore the countless creative possibilities of glass. The exhibition presents a path that unfolds through the different voices of the best contemporary art, put to the test by the comparison with an ancient art such as Murano glass blowing and more generally with the challenge of generating new art in glass. Challenged to seek out new languages, the artists involved prove how glass is truly capable of emancipating itself from clichés and finding new ways to express itself with the language of modernity. The exhibition includes artists who have already collaborated with Berengo Studio and exhibited at Glasstress such as Jimmie Durham, Tony Cragg, Monira Al Qadiri and Thomas Schütte, as well as first participations such as, among others, those of Vanessa Beecroft, María Magdalena Campos-Pons, Paloma Varga Weisz and eL Seed.
